REEFTON NOTES

[our own correspondent.] REEFTON, August 22. On Sunday afternoon visitors to the Reef ton High School Jubilee were motored to Waiuta by the Committee. An inspection of the plant uf Blackwater Mines was made and Mr J. McEwen, battery superintendent, conducted the party over the newlyerected battery and stamp mill. Mr Dawson, engine-driver on the Reefton-Greymouth line, who has been transferred to Christchurch, was farewelled at the Railway Station by officials and workmen and other friends. Mr W. Gee was chairman, and after referring to Mr Dawson’s 10£ years’ excellent service as enginedriver, expressed the regret of all at his leaving the district. He congratulated him upon his. advancement in the service, and asked his acceptance of a clock. A sports meeting continued the Reef ton High School Jubilee celebrations. The organising committee ran off the various events, and' in the school sections Mr Dickie (headmaster) and Mr A. E. Ellis and staff organised the programme. All the school pupils were presented with a souvenir, and tickets for a free picture entertainment last night were given to each child. School pupils gave a drill display, and the Inangahua Silver Band assisted. A football match, Past v. Present scholars, was won by the former by 17pts to eight. For the winners, C. McElwee scored twice and converted one, A. King scored and H. Mitchell converted. For the present pupils, I. Rawstren and' A. Cleaver scored, and D. Potter con verted.
