MAGISTRATE’S COURT. [OUR own correspondent.] REEFTON. July 18. At the Magistrate’s Court, to-day, before Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., four first offenders, charged with being found on licenesd premises after hours, were each fined 5/- with 10/costs. Four AVaiuta residents, for a similar offence, were each fined 5/witli costs 10/6, and 3/6 witnesses’ expenses, W. R. Blom, for carrying on a motor-vehicle a load beyond that for which the vehicle was licensed, was fined 10/-, with costs 10/-. O. J. Penny, for operating a motorcar without a driver’s license, was fined £L with costs 12/Henry. J. Rochford, tor not having a warrani of fitness for a motorvehicle, was lined .£l, with costs 10/-. For cycling by night without lights, Joseph Pfab’ert and John P. Fitzgerald were’ .a- • fined 10/-. with costs 12/-. • ■ Percy R. 11,11, charged by Traffic Inspector Burdett with exceeding the road classification with a load, and with carrying a load in excess of that for which tlie lorry was licensed, was fined £2, with costs 12/- on the first charge, and on the second he was fined £5/5/- with costs 12/-. For failing to carry an inspection certificate, defendant was fined £l, witli costs 10/-; for failing to carry a vehicle authority, he was fined £l, with costs 10/-; ■,/! for operating a motor-lorry withoi i’’having on same an indication disc, ’ was fined £1 with costs 10/-. AVhen the lorry of defendant company ,was weighed it vas found to be carrying seven tons one cwt. on one rear axle, and seven ions three cwt. on the other axle, making a total overload of six tons tour cwt. The company operated over 10 vehicles. The S.M. pointed out that he had previously issued a warning against overloading and its serious effects on -oad surfaces. Mr. William Hobbs, who had been a resident of the Inangahua District for’ 33 years. Deceased who was aged 63, was a native of Exeter (Devon). He worked for many years in the Globe Mine, but had been dairying since the mine closed 20 years ago. He is survived by a widow and one son, Reginald, of Reefton.
