BRITISH INSURANCE BILL.

LONDON, July 18

The President of the- Board' of Trade (Mr. Stanley) stated in the Common’s, during the d’elbate on the War Risks Insurance Bill, that the Government could not take, the responsibility of conducting a scheme for insurance against air raids in war-time, because the estimated insurable value of British property, machinery, and furniture that could be damaged was £12,380,000,000, working out at £275 per capita. ■ ' ' Nevertheless, he added, the Government was. instituting' ah inquiry into the possibility of a. s'clieme of mutual protection of property on a contributory basis, affording compensation at the earliest possible time after damage. The Government might assist financially in this way. The bill was read a second time.
