SHIPS RUSH TO RESCUE

TOKIO, July 18
The Bokuyo Maru, on a voyage from Los Angeles to Yokohama, is on fire in mid-Pacific.
The ship carries 110 passengers, and a crew of 104. It has a cargo of Chilean nitrate.
In response to an SOS the San Pedro Maru, the Florida Maru, the Nippon Maru, and‘the Azuma Maru are going to the scene at full speed. The first of the rescue ships is expected to arrive in 24 hours. Nothing has been heard from, the blazing ship for 13 hours. A serious explosion is feared if the fire reaches the cargo.

An American oil-tanker rescued everyone aboard the Bokuyo Maru. One member of the crew was killed, and one injured, as a result of the fire.
EXPLOSION ON GERMAN SHIP
BERLIN, July 18
There were 15 killed and 18 injured througn an explosion on the Nord Deutscher Lloyd steamer Berlin, 15 miles from Swinemunde. There were no passengers aboard. . The explosion is believed to have been due to oil leaking into the steam container in the boiler-room. . Six of those injured were taken'to hospital, and their condition is regarded as dangerous.
