Business and commercial colleges Have been classed as educational institutions within the meaning of the Social Security Act, and their students who are not in receipt of income will be exempt from the levy, .according to information received by the principal of an Auckland commercial college from the Prime Minister (Mr. Savage).

Mr. Robert Stewart, 67, of Punakaiki, was admitted to the Grey Hospital, last night, suffering from bruises and shock, as a result of being knocked down by a motor-car in Mackay Street, about nine o’clock. It was. reported, to-day,. that his condition was satisfactory. Mr. Stewart was crossing the street towards the Town Hall when the accident occurred. He was carried into a nearby shop, and after receiving attention from Dr. H. S. Ray, was removed to the hospital. The ear, which was proceeding in an easterly direction, was driven by Mrs. Violet Ethel Kelly, of Ward Street, Cobden. A week ago Mr. Stewart’s house, with all his belongings, at Punakaiki, was destroyed by fire.
