Driving rain and a. strong and gusty wind gave Aucklanders yesterday one of the most uncomfortable days of the Winter. The fall of rain for the 24 hours ended at midnight was more than two inches. This was among the- heaviest, falls this Winter, and resulted in the average for the month of .lune of 4.95 .inches- being exceeded. Outdoor work generally was at a. standstill, and I hero was practically no waterfront activity al Auckland and Onehunga. Sight oversea. ships and many inter-colonial and coastal vessels lay idle al Auckland, and no work was done on three ships at Onehunga. Twn ships cleared port at Auckland early yesterday: but all other sailings were cancelled, one overseas and eight coastal vessels being affected.-—Press Assn, I
