FASCIST CELEBRATIONS. (PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT,) ROME, March 10. The celebrations of the foundation of the Fascist Party have been postponed from March 23 to March 26, “so as not to interrupt national work, especially military preparation.” ROYAL TOUR RUGBY, March 10. H.M.S. Repulse will leave Portsmouth on March 18, for Gibraltar, after which final preparations will be made in the ship, for Their Majesties’ voyage to Canada. BATLEY BY-ELECTION. LONDON, March 10. The Batley by-election resulted: — Mr. H. Beaumont (Labour) 20,020; Mr. W. Wills (Conservative) 16,124. At the 1935 General Election the voting was W. Brooke (Labour) 21,182; W. D. Wills (Conservative) 18,354. Majority for Brooke 2828. COTTON INDUSTRY, RUGBY, March 9. The President of the Board of Trade announced in the Commons the Government’s decision to proceed with a bill embodying proposals for the reorganisation of the cotton industry, and for a joint committee of cotton trade organisations, a draft of which was the subject of a recent ballot in the industry. The bill, which will follow closely the draft published last year, will be introduced in the House of Commons next week.
FLYING-BOAT DAMAGED. SINGAPORE, March 10. The east-bound Empire flying-boat Carpentaria was rammed by a junk in the Bangkok River. The damage is not serious. The mails and passengers will arrive at Singapore tomorrow, where another machine is waiting.
