STORMS IN ATLANTIC

SHIPS IN DISTRESS.

[BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

(Received January 21, 11.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, January 20

One ship was broken in two. another lost a propeller, and several liners were badly battered by terrific midWinter storms in the Atlantic. The crew of 37 were miraculously rescued from the oil tanker, Jaguar, which broke in two in mid-Atlantic so suddenly that she was unable to flash a distress signal. A small freighter, Duala, apparently nearby, wirelessed that she picked up seven from the forecastle, and 30 from the aft. section, which remained floating, despite the tremendous seas. A coastguard cutter reached Lio freighter, Black Condor, off Nova Scotia, which was helpless without propellers.
