Mr. H. G. Hambleton, of the Greymouth branch of the Bank of New Zealand, left to-day on transfer to Christchurch.
A Press Association message from Wellington reported the'death-of Mr. W. C. Robinson, formerly secertary to the Department of Agriculture, who retired in June last year. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and one daughter.
The death has occurred of Dr. J. S. MacLaurin, formerly Dominion Analyst, and Chief Inspector of Explosives. He held a distinguished position in science, in connection with metallurgy, gold and cyanide process. He joined the Minos Department in 1901, and the scope of the laboratory steadily increased! eventually to come under the control of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. —Press Assn.
Sir. William Stewart McClymont, of Blenheim, was last evening appointed secretary-treasurer to the Grey Electric Power Board, from 58 applicants, in succession to Mr. J. Benford, who resigned in order to become accountant to the Christchurch Municipal Electricity Department. Mr. McClymont is a native of Ashburton, 38 years of age, and was accountant to the Ashburton Power Beard for three years, before being appointed secretary to the Marlborough Power Board, 11 years ago.
A kitchen evening was given at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. Holland, Blaketown, in honour of Miss Isabel Lees, of Greymouth, whose marriage will take place shortly. Over 50 friends attended and Miss Lees was the recipient of many gifts. The evening was spent in games, dancing and community singing. At supper., the toast of Miss Lees was proposed by Mr. C. Sorenson and was replied to by Mr. Edwin Dunn, on behalf of Miss Lees.
