ISTANBUL. January 18. General Naci Tinaz hqs been appointed Defence Minister. The Prime Minister stated that -M. Zekui’s resignation was prompted by the desire to facilitate an investigation into the allegations that warplanes were supplied to Spain.
DUKE OF WINDSOR.
HOLLYWOOD, January 18.
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor are planning an extended visit to the United States in March, according to Elsa Maxwell, a society leader, and a close friend of the Duchess. The programme includes a visit to her former home in Baltimore, and the New York World’s Fair.
BRITAIN’S MEAT IMPORTS.
LONDON, January IS.
The Australian Associated Press says: The Empire Beef Council drafted a tentative scheme for control of mutton and lamb imports, which will be submitted to the Dominions, requesting the views regarding the scheme. The Council expressed a willingness to revise the plan if necessary, before submitting it to the Board' of Trade. Also the restrictions are being imposed only when essential.
The Council is meeting to-morrow, at which time the Dominions’ replies are expected.
BRITISH EXCHEQUER.
RUGBY, January 17
Exchequer returns show that the total ordinary revenue amounts to £559,431,243 compared with £548, 863,823 a year ago. Total expenditure, less self-balanc-ing items is £774,766,078, compared with £690,722,941 a year ago.

EX-KAISER’S BIRTHDAY.
BERLIN, January 18.
Although German Army officers are forbidden to toast the ex-Kaiser’s eightieth birthday, and have been ordered to leave any place of entertainment. where the toast is offered, FieldMarshal Mackensen is arriving at Doorn on January 24, to convey the former Imperial Army’s greetings.
