Two cases of ptomaine poisoning, believed, to have been caused by tinned foods, were admitted to the Wellington Public Hospital, late last night. The patients were a. married couple, who took ill after a day at the Worsen Baybeach. The woman was more seriously affected than the man.

About. 5.30 p.m.? while they were still at the beach, she complained of pains and became sick. Her husband, who was also feeling the effects of some internal disorder, drove, her home, and called in a doctor. By this lime, the husband was also ill, and later in the night they were both taken to hospital by ambulance. Their condition to-day was said to be improving.

BOY'S SERIOUS BURNS

WHANGAREI, January 16

Evan Moran, aged seven, suffered serious burns through methylated spirit exploding when a primus burner was being lit. last, night. Ruehen Moran, of Beresford Street, Russell, after lighting the spirit in the pan of the primus, left, the room for a few minutes. When he returned, he thought the spirit, was completely burned out. and added more from a bottle. This immediately exploded, tlirowing Hames into the face of the son. who was watching. The boy, whose clothing caught lire, was terrified, and ran away. Mr. Moran pursued bis son and tore the flaming clothing from him, and wrapped the boy in a blanket. Severely burnt, the boy was brought, to Whangarei Hospital for treatment.
