The Government promptly responded to the appeal of the Chetwode Commission, and agreed to suspend all death sentences for/offences prior to September 2, provided - the*—Franco authorities do likewise. The Government is prepared to do its utmost to facilitate the exchange of prisoners. “If the civil war lasts another winter, the misery of the children may be of catastrophic proportions owing to lack of food and warmth,” declared the Swedish delegate to the League of Nations Commission, assisting children. At Barcelona, crowds leaving the amusement places, stood in the streets and loudly cheered as Republican fighters, in a blaze of searchlights, pursued five raiders, and drove them off, after they bombed the hospital train.
