PALESTINE SHOOTINGS
A FURTHER SERIES. [BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS] RUGBY, September 1. A cablegram from the High Commissioner for Palestine, received at the Colonial Office, states that an Arab notable of Jaffa was shot and killed by terrorists. Two Arabs were shot, one fatally, in the Old City of Jerusalem. Two Arab doctors were abducted from the Hebron area, but were later returned unharmed. A Jewish constable was killed near Lydda in a bus by one of the passengers. In Haifa the police shot and killed a known terrorist who, when challenged, had run away. They discovered and' made harmless a number of primitive bombs in other parts of the country. A man acting as a messenger for the terrorists was arrested, as also were the occupants of a taxi in which a loaded revolver was found. Near the frontier, a post was attacked, and the police, replying to the fire, are believed to have inflicted casualties on a gang. Isolated acts of sniping, sabotage and armed robbery continue.
