GLIDERS’ COMPETITION

Pilot Blech was killed during the famous Wasserkoppe competition, in which another pilot was also killed, when making a parachute descent. Thirteen hundred starts were made during the competition, the distance flown being forty-seven thousand miles in 2,750 hours. The flights ranged from 121 to 200 miles. The world altitude recorded was surpassed five times.
