RAILWAY WAGONS.
[to the editoi:.] Sir, —In your issue of the 17th. in-
stant, a paragraph, appears in which it is stated that the Liverpool Mine would be idle owing to a shortage of railway wagons. 1 wish to draw your attention to the fact. that, the hold-up at. the Liverpool Mine was not. in any way the fault of the Railways' Departmriii. In fairness to my Department I have to point, out. that at. the time r,f writing 252 hopper wagons were under load on the Greymouth wharf awaiting shipment. This l represents approximately 2500 tons of coal of which 1600 tons is for the Kalingo, due to arrive at this port, on Monday. 16th inst. This boat arrived this afternoon. It will thus be apparent that the. Railways Department has provided more than reasonable facilities tor the storage of coal in order to keep the mines working.—ours etc., .1. BARNETT. Acting Stationmaster. Greyinouth, May IS.
