ST. COLUMBA CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the St. Col-umba-Club was held last evening, Mr. .]. P. Gilbert, presiding over an attendance of about. 20 members. Motions of condolence were passed with the relatives of the late Desmond Fogarty, Patrick Carroll and Michael Keating. The annual report, as published in the “Star” of yesterday, and the balance sheet, showing a small credit balance, were read and adopted. The election of officers resulted': — President: Mr. D. Clancy; Spiritual Director: Rev. Father F. Kelly (reelected); hon. vice-president: Rev. Bro. Oswald; vice-presidents: Messrs. M. Morel, W. Butler and .1. Phillips; secretary: Mr. T. Keating: assistant secretary: Mr. .1. Kelly; treasurer: Mr. I. Mcllroy (re-elected); auditor: Mr. M. G. Kelly; executive: Messrs. C. IL McGinley,' T. O’Farrell, L. Phillips, J. Keating, ,1. Gilbert, and J. Raleigh; club selectors: Rev. Father Kelly and Mr. M. G. Kelly: delegates to Debating Clubs’ League: Messrs. Clancy and T. Keating. Messrs. A. Hansby and W. G. Butler were elected members. It was decided to hold weekly meetings on Wednesday evenings. Subscriptions were fixed at 7/6 (seniors), and 2/G (juniors: under 18). It was decided to hold a Question Box al the' next meeting and to arrange a. debate with St. Mary’s Club, Hokitika, for the following Wednesday, al Greymouth, St. Columba Club io arrange the subject and' St, Mary’s to select, the side. Messrs. L. Phillips. Mcllroy, Kelly and Butler, were appointed a, Subcommittee to draw tip a. syllabus' for th& coming year. Rev. Father Holohan addressed! the meeting, urging members to take a lively interest in all the l club’s activities. He stressed the need for increased membership, and for more' serious study of the social problems of the day.
