BOROUGH ELECTION
CITIZENS AND CRITICISM. “Uninvited Citizen," writing in the “Star,” yesterday, took it upon himself to criticise, in a back-handed manner, the Citizens’ Committee, and asked a number of questions. The fact that the lefter was anonymous gives sufficient. indication of the lack oi standing of the writer, so far as real citizens are concerned. • "Uninvited Citizen" says it. would appear that the Borough election is being tainted with politics. and that the good of Greymouth is of secondary consideration. So far as the Citizens’ Committee is concerned, there is no- political bias, and Citizens’ candidates 1 plead not guilty to the insinuation made. An assurance is given to the anonymous writer’ that the Citizens’ Committee really represents the citizens, and that the sole object of contesting the election is to fight in every way for the progress of the Borough and stop the finances slipping any further. It is also insinuated that the Citizens’ candidates are not truly representative of the people of Greymouth. These men have been selected after careful consideration of their abilities for the particular positions sought. They possess a record of service in public and commercial activities second to none, and, in offering their services. they have nothing to hide. “Uninvited Citizen” may rest assured that, if .in his own words, the election is a. case of “one or two factions getting control.” the Citizens’ candidates arc the best investment for the people of Greymouth. The Committee invites criticism, but let it. be open and above board.—-P.B.A.
