Federated Seamen’s Union today' approved plans for amendments to its rules directed to overcoming shipping stoppages and sectional strikes, hitherto engineered by "shore seamen”—otherwise, unemployed members of the union—by which working seamen are often', the victims. Disputes involving stoppages in future must be decided by the rank and file throughout Australia. The president, Mr. T. Fleming, reported that he had recently visited New Zealand and cleared up misunderstandings arising out of the last strike in 1935-36.-,' A working agreement between New Zealand and Australia had. also been brought about.
