RELIGION IN RUSSIA

PERSECUTION RENEWED. [by CABLE —PBESS ASSN.—COPYBIGHT.] ■ ; LONDON, April 25. The Riga correspondent of “The Times” says that the new anti-relig-ious activity of recent weeks has been intensified this week, which is __the Russian Easter. The Soviet Press speaks of trials, liquidations, investigations, and arrests throughout Russia, mentioning that members of the Orthodox Church, Protestants, Catholics, and others have been charged with Bukharinism, Trotskyism, organising burglaries, assassihdtions, railway collisions, crop failures, brigandage, and espionage for Germany, Poland, and Japan. The overfilled churches on Sunday were partly due to a reduction in the number of churches, but reports- indicate that Easter, was. celebrated in many centres on a greater scale than in recent years.
