CHINESE RAIDED
EXTENSIVE OPIUM HAUL. [PEP. PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, February 9. Large and valuable quantities of opium, pipes, lamps, scales, and other paraphernalia Were seized, and the Chinese proprietor was arrested when detectives carried out a. surprise raid on premises at Grey’s Avenue in the city shortly before 10 o'clock to-night. Together with another found on the premises, the arrested Chinese will appear in the Magistrate's Court. The raid was made so swiftly that the Chinese were taken completely by surprise.
The premises were’ very heavily barricaded. More than scwt. of barbed wire had been distributed across the roof, and all the windows were stoutly barred with lengths of iron one inch thick.
