INQUEST TO BE RE-OPENED?

AUCKLAND, February 9. Approval of an application for the re-opening of the inquest concerning the deaths of three seamen, from the cruiser Leander, who were drowned ott Karaka. Bay. Auckland Harbour, on Sepember 30. when a galley capsized during a. race, has been given by the Attorney-General (Mr. Mason).
In the course of a telephone conversation in Wellington, this morning, the Minister said that the application for the re-opening of the inquiry had been placed before him, and, after consideration, he had decided to give his approval, but the final decision would have to be given by the Supreme Court. All Ihe papers, he added, had been sent forward. When the inquest was held, the Coroner (Mr. F. K. Hunt) returned a verdict of accidental death, but afteiwards ffe made an addition to his finding, which he forwarded to the Undersecretary of Justice. In addition, Mr. Hunt said that, since the inquiry closed, the Auckland Harbourmaster publicly stated that he notified H.M.S. Achilles of the accident, about, an hour earlier than the time stated by Lieu tenant-Commander Lloyd, at. the in quest. If this was so, an explanation was required.
