MR. SAVAGE’S HOLIDAY ENDS
PLEASANT TIME SPENT [per press association.] AUCKLAND, January 4. “I am returning to Wellington, this evening, to another year of hard work,” said Mr. Savage, when interviewed to-day. “But I am well fortified by the fortnight’s spell at Auckland. which I look on as my home town. The holidays have been memorable for me. mostly for the considerate way which people and the newspapers combined in good will to give me a good share of leisure. I renewed acquaintance with many old friends, and such official functions as I attended, were exceptionally pleasant. I shared with the people of Auckland, and thousands of visitors, the thrill of seeing the historic flying boat's arrive on the Waitemata and take moorings, almost side by side, in circumstances symbolising the spirit of friendship between the United States of America and the British Commonwealth of Nations. Their advent marked the beginning of new services in the swiftest form of transport virtually spanning the world.” Mr. Savage added that he was taking back to Wellington a full share of Auckland sun-tan. “It is not necessary.” he said, “to say anything about politics. There will be plenty of time for that, and much to say before this year comes to an end. Meanwhile, my visit to Auckland has reinforced my determination to do everything possible to help to retain the prosperity and happiness of the people, at the beginning of 1938.”
