ROYAL WELCH

TO KEEP ITS GOAT

LONDON, November 15

The regimental goat of the Royal Welch Fusiliers is to survive the mechanisation of the regiment which has followed its conversion from a rifle unit to a machine-gun unit. Fears ' were expressed in some quarters that the goat would be out of place in the new organisation. An .officer of the regiment said, however, that whatever changes were made in equipment the goat would remain. For more than 200 years the Royal Welch Fusiliers have had a goat to walk in advance of the band and drums. The goat has come from Royal herds since 1884, when one from Windsor was presented to the regiment by Queen Victoria.
