SNAKE POISON REMEDY [PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] BRUSSELS, December 28. Two living cobras were rushed, by air from Berlin Zoo, to aid a patient who was dying of a rare disease. The patient was given injections from the snakes’ glands in time to prolong life.
GLASS STATUE LONDON, December 28. The Vienna correspondent of “The Times” says: The sculptor, Mario Petrucci, claims to have surmounted the technical difficulties in modelling a life-size statue in glass. His ambition is to carve a glass statue of “Hamlet” addressing a skull at his feet. Petrucci hopes to erect the statue in Hyde Park.
BOXER’S FRIENDS
LOS ANGELES, December 27
The Judge ruled that the film actress, Miss Alien’s, suit against Mrs. Goddes for alleged alienation from plaintiff of the affections of the boxer, Jack Doyle, is void unless she can prove that there was a possibility of her reconciliation with Jack Doyle before Mrs. Goddes’ friendship with him. Miss Allen must amend her complaint within twenty days.
BRITAIN’S NEW RIFLE
LONDON, December 28.
An anti-tank rifle weighing 36 pounds, capable of firing nine rounds a. minute, will shortly be issued- to all infantry battalions. It is essentially a weapon of surprise, says the “Telegraph,” affording protection against the light armoured fighting tanks. The total length is 64 inches.
ICELAND FISHERIES
REYKJAVIK, December 28.
The Ministry of Justice has suspended the commander of the Icelandic armed guard-ship Aegir, on account of carelessness and inaccuracy in capturing poaching trawlers, based on sentences of the Supreme Court, where the trawlers he arrested had been discharged. The British and foreign trawlers’ authorities repeatedly complained to the Government about his conduct.
KIDNAPPED GOVERNOR.
LONDON, December 28
“The Times’s” Beirut correspondent says that Twefik Chemieh was rescued, unhurt. The kidnapping was the Syrian Uniats’ method of drawing attention to their demands for guarantees under French withdrawal from Syria.
SOVIET ENTERPRISE
MOSCOW, December 28
The Soviet’s first dirigible airline will be opened, with a regular mail and freight service, in the Spring, later extending to include passengers.
SELASSIE’S PROTEST.
LONDON, December 28
Haile Selassie has telegraphed to Belgium, Holland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Luxembourg, and Finland, expressing concern that States belonging to the Oslo Convention are about to consider the de jure recognition of Italy’s annexation of Ethiopia, He said that the Ethiopian people will continue to resist Italian domination. FRENCH STRIKE PARIS, Dec. 28. A strike of all public services will begin on December 29.
