BUTTER PRICES
INCREASE FOR SECOND GRADE.
[PER press association.]
WELLINGTON. December 9
The price of second grade pat butter throughout New Zealand as from December 30 will be l/21d per lb. wholesale. This alteration is announced in an contained in to-night’s Gazette. In all other respects the price of butter for the local trade remains the. same.
It is stated that through the' greater manufacturing efficiency of the industry, coupled with the dry season, second grade butter, has diminished to the point where factories are finding it difficult to supply the consumer demand for this commodity—thus the necessity of narrowing the margin between first and second grades. It is also stated that the price order will in no way affect consumers’ cost of standard brands of first grade quality.
