Under the will of the late C. Russell Smith, accountant whose estate was valued at £20,000, bequests of £lOO are made to the nurses’ Memorial Fund, Moray Place Congregational Church, and the Presbyterian Social Service Association. Subject to the failure of certain trusts, the trust estate ’is to be divided equally between the Moray Place Congregational Church, the Presbyterian Social Service, the Nurses’ Memorial, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the Patients and Prisoners’ aid Society.

CARTERTON, December 10.

Fire, this morning, broke out at the Foresters’ Arms Hotel, Greyfown. Fortunately, it was discovered in time, and the brigade was able to subdue it. The outbreak took place in an upstairs bedroom. The brigade was delayed in arrival by the failure of the- 'alarm bell to operate, but on arrival it did excellent work, confining the actual fire damage to upstairs. All the ground floors were drench with water, though it is reported that the liquor stocks are intact.
