The No. 1,2 shaft in the Crown Mines which is heavily timbered, has been a blazing inferno for the past IS hours. The fire was discovered by the night shift of 80 men, who were traversing the tunnels. They encountered smoke, retreated, and reached the surface safely, before a huge volume of poisonous gas swept up. Fortunately, the outbreak started between shifts.
