DRAW AT TAYLORVILLE

Technical Old Boys travelled to Taylorville. on Saturday, and, after a hard fast game, the match was drawn. Play was ragged in parts, but some bright, sparkling movements thrilled the spectators. The teams were evenly matched, but the ground was heavy, and the middle of the playing area was in a deplorable condition. Both goals were scored in the second spell, and towards the end, both teams clapped on the pace, each goal-mouth coming under a heavy bombardment. A draw 1 was a good indication of the run of the game, both trains striving hard for the advantage. The teams were: —

Taylorville: Baird, Bowman, Bernard; Hoggarth P., W. Lee, Erskine. F. Bernard. Rowlands, H. Hoggarth, Bateman. Coutts.

Bowman cleared with a long kick down the centre of the field. Bowman sent lhe right wing away, and a fine effort by H. Hoggarth saw Henderson bring off a brilliant save to concede a corner, which Lee cleared. Bateman missed an opportunity to score. Bowman repeatedly relieved Taylorville. A fine cross by H. Hoggarth ended when Bateman missed an easy chance to'score. Kerr came dangerously near to scoring with a. fine header, Bail’d bringing off a. timely save. Lee was playing a solid game at full-back, constantly repulsing the fast Taylorville forwards. A hot attack by the Tech, forwards saw Duggan narrowly miss with a pile-driver. H. Hoggarth missed by yards when in a handy position. Both goal-keepers were , bringing off some spectacular saves under heavy pressure. From a porner by Smythe, J. Paton narrowly missed with a beautiful header. J. Paton took a sharp shot at goal, A. Bernard clearing. Hall was trying to get through ably assisted by Dalzell, but the defence stood. There was no score at half-time. On resuming, Tech, left wing staged a beautiful movement, Smythe centring well to gain a corner. The kick was fruitless. A sharp rally by Coutts and Bernard had the Tech, backs in difficulties, but Henderson came to the rescue with a great save from a speculator by Coutts. Shortly after Lee robbed Bateman, when he was in a good scoring position. Baird was called upon to clear and at the other end Henderson gob his fingers to the ba’i just in time to repulse a nice effort by Rowlands. Smythe and J. Paton had Bowman -working hard. Dalzell made ground down the right wing, sending in to Hall to shoot, for Baird to clear to Dalzell again, who made no mistake with a. pile-driver. Tech. Old Boys 1, Taylorville 0. This reverse spurred the Taylorville forwards who staged a series of hot attacks. From a corner W. Paton made a timely clearance. Back came the. Taylorville forwards, and a fine centre from Coutts saw H. Hoggarth score with a 'Well-placed shot. Taylorville 1. Old Boys 1. 1-1. Hoggarth was again prominent, and all but. scored during a melee in the Tech, goal-mouth, a. corner resulting. Coutts placed the Hick well, but it. was cleared by Hall. Lee, of Taylorville, made a fine attempt to score, Henderson coming out to clear. Tech, half-backs wore working well, and good work by W. Paton and Hogg on the left wing relieved the Tech. goal. Smythe made a fine solo attempt down the left wing, .narrowly missing with a fine- cross-shot. Play quickly swung into Tech, territory, Coutts heading by. J. Paton sent Smythe away, and a beautiful centre by that player went begging. F. Bernard had a shot at goal, but Henderson was safe. A free-kick to Taylorville was fruitless. A hard drive from Coutts was cleared in tine style by Hogg. The Tech, left wing went away ami Baird was called upon twice to clear from Smythe and .1. Paton. During a. quick succession of raids by the Taylorville forwards. Henderson was brilliant. A fine piece of combination between Bernard and 11. Hoggarth looked dangerous, but Lee broke it. and cleared down field. Taylorville forwards were striving hard to score and only the solid defence of Henderson, Lee and Hogg repulsed their attacks. ' Final score: Taylorville 1, Old Boys 1.
