SHEEP WORRYING

DOGS CAUGHT IN ACT. [PIB PBIBB ASSOCIATION.] HASTINGS, June 11. Seven valuable Southdown ewes, were lost, on Tuesday afternoon, by Phil Drummond, on his farm at Puketapu. Drummond fortunately arrived on the scene in time to catch the two dogs, otherwise his loss would have been much greater. Drummond had his 39 stud ewes, which were due to lamb in August, in a paddock adjacent to the road. Returning home about 3.30 in the afternoon, he noticed some of the ewes in a. group, and showing signs of being a little agitated. Later, he noticed two dogs among the ewes. The approach of Drummond and an employee did not disturb the dogs in their ferocious work, and they did not desist. till called off by the owners, who had been summoned by Drummond. Roth dogs were immediately killed. The ewes were extensively mutilated. and the condition of two other owes is such that their recovery js unlikely.
