AFTER CORONATION
LEVEE AT PALACE. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. COPYRIGHT.] LONDON. May 28. Escorted by cavalry. His .Majesty drove to St. James’s Palace and held a levee. A thousand attended, including new peers, promoted officers, Dominion representatives and others. New Zealanders attending included Hon. Josiah Hannen. Captain Maxwell, Sydney Neill, Captain Sugden, and Charles Wilkinson.
LONDON STREETS NORMAL. LONDON. May 28. London streets are normal with the return of the familiar red buses. Simultaneously, the Coronation decorations are being taken down. The “Guardian" voices the widely held opinion that the absence of buses contributed to the effectiveness of the Coronation displays. N.Z. V.C.’s WATCH LONDON, May 28. Every time Sergeant. James ('richton. V.C.. of the New Zealand Coronation contingent, looks at bis watch it will remind him of British hospitality.
The “News-Ohronicle” relates how he accidentally dropped his watch, wrecking the works, and took it to a well-known London firm. “It was nearly worn out." said ('richton. "but when they handed it back I found that they had put in entirely new works." He asked how much it would cost, and was told that as he was the holder of the Victoria Cross, there was nothing to pay. and ae was to accept it as a small token of their appreciation.
