QUIST’S IMPROVEMENT.

FOREST HILLS,. ; May; 28. ' The physician attending- the Australian Davis Cup player, A. K. Quist, said Quist had been improving since early in the week when, at one time, he had a temperature of 103 degrees. Jf he had accepted advice not to practise on Monday he would probably haye been wholly well to-day. A blood test will be taken, and it will be known to-morrow whether he cap play in the match against the United State. It is understood that Quist has been nominated for the singles with a. proviso that if the physician certifies against his playing V. B. McGrath will be substituted. It is believed the extra day’s rest will enable Quist to play in the doubles.

THE FIRST SINGLES

The draw foi’gthe first singles, in the Davis Cup tie is: Crawford versus Budge, Quist versus Grant. The Americans nominated Budge and Mako for the doubles. Sproule reserved the right to nominate to an hour before the match. He declined to indicate the doctor’s report on Quist, but it was apparently favourable. FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Received May 29, 11 a.m.) PARIS, May 28. In the tennis championships, quarter finals, Henkel defeated Hughes C/3, 6/4, C/2. Boussuls defeated Cejnar 6/2, C/2. 6/1. ■ In. the women’s singles, quarterfinal, Jcdrzejowska defeated Helen Jacobs C/3, 6/4.
