LONDON. March 18

Lord llowart, the Lord Chief Justice, at Lewes Assizes yesterday, awarded £lOO to :t man who complained of pain “like toothache” in his right knee.

The plaintiff, Mr Frederick - William fiench. of Connaught-terrace, Hove.

surd Mr Ernest Percy Herbert, a dentist. of Portland-road. Hove, for damages, alleging negligence, which was admit ted.

For Mr Dench, it was stated that in August, 1935, when he had a tooth extracted. Mr Herbert dropped a heavy metal syringe on Mr Dench’s leg. The needle penetrated the knee joint, and broke, two fragments lodging in the joint. An operation for their removal would be iitaiivHible. ,
