FIRE OUTBREAKS
TIMBER MILL DESTROYED.

AUCKLAND, April 28.
Th* Roose Shipping Company’s timber mill at Mercer was, burned! down at 10 o’clock to-night. The flames spread with great rapidity. The plant was demolished and the building badly damaged. A rough 'estimate of the total loss, is £3OOO. The insurance is l with the South British Company for £B5O. The mill employed 20 men, and had large orders' on hand.
AUCKLAND SCHOOL DESTROYED.
DARGAVILLE, April 28.
Fanned by a westerly breeze, a fire of unknown origin swept fiercely through the secondary department of the Dargaville District High School, about 6.50 o’clock last evening, and before the brigade could reach the scene t|he building was a mass of flames. Within 45 minutes of the outbreak the building was razed.
The school, which was erected in 1925 and added to since, was of wood and corrugated iron throughout. The board carries insurance. It was the best and most up-to-date district high school north of Auckland.
Arrangements for the carrying on of the tuition of 150 pupils in other buildings in the town are being made.
