LONDON WOOL SALES.

(Recd. April 28, 11 a - m -) LONDON, April 27. The wool sales opened firm. Merinos made 5 per cent., crossbreds, fine, .>, and medium coarse 7£ to 10 per cent, advance. —LATER.

7,492 bales were offered including 2 549 New Zealand. A good selection was offered, and 6,795 bales sold. There was keen general competition, particularly from the home trade. Crossbreds generally were five to 7per cent., and all others five per cent dearer than the closing prices of the last series. New Zealand greasy crossbred, Oweka top price W-av-erage 17 7-Bd. The correspondent of the United Press Association at Rarotonga writes as follows: — The fruit shipment aboard the Matua, which left Rarotonga on April 11, comprises approximately 3080 ca ® es 0 # The prices paid were as'follows: a case for fruit alone on the wharf, G/G a case f.o.b. Approximately 1000 cases of oranges, were available for shipment by the Matua, but as bananas and oranges could not be shipped in the same holds, there was no possibility of getting the oranges shipped. The first shipment will be made by the Limerick in the middle of May, when oranges will be sent from Rarotonga, Matike, and Mangaia.

DUNEDIN SAVINGS BANK

DUNEDIN, April 27.

The balance-sheet of the Dunedin Savings Bank, which was presented at the annual meeting to-day, showed that during the year ended March 31, the amount lodged by depositors was £907,232. The withdrawals totalled £915,543. Interest added for the year was £67,838, while the total standing to the credit of depositors was £2,365,000. On the whole, the year had been very successful, a large volume of business having been put through, and a considerable number of new accounts having been opened.
