MORTGAGE INTEREST
DUTY TO PAY’ [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, April 28. “The Court will view unfavourably the action by any mortgagor, who pending a determination of his application for an adjustment of his liability, refused or neglected to pay whatever interest within the prescribed limits, it was reasonably possible for him to provide.” This statement is contained in a circular letter from the Under-Secretary of Justice (Mr B. L. Dallard) to the Law Societies of the Dominion.
Complaint has been made that many ifiortgagors have taken advantage of the fact that they had made applications for relief by refraining from paying interest. Mr. Dallard’s statement makes it clear this is not the intention of the legislation)
