(Recd. April 27, 1 p.m.)

MONTREAL, April 26.

The worst April floods for years again imperilled the three State area of Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. Mountain streams fed by heavy rains and snows brought the Ohio river and tributaries down as torrents. The principal cities are threatened.

At Pittsburgh, where the Alleghanny and Mongahela rivers exceeded the 25 feet level, the waters are expected to reach 35 feet to-morrow at noon with the possibility of putting the so-called “Golden Triangle” under water for the third time within thirteen months. Merchants and factories in the low-lying area, have begun the movement of goods from the danger zone.

Suburban towns are already flooded and preparation has begun to abandon them.

Johnstown reported ipany streets under water. The evacuation of business houses has begun. . At Wheeling, a 43 feet crest' is ;expected. Ten thousand residents at Wheeling Island have been ordered to be in readiness to leave at short notice.

At Cumberland (Maryland) business streets are flooded. The national guard and W.P.A. workers have been called on emergency duty. Thirty-six hours of continuous rain, and unprecedented Spring snows, show no prospect of cessation until to-morrow. Four deaths have occurred in this region.
