BABY’S MILK

CAUSTIC SODA PUT IN.

PALMERSTON N„ April 27.

In the Magistrate’s Court, before Justices, Amy Louisa Graham, married, residing with her husband at Rangiotu, was charged .on February 22 last, with intent to injure, she attempted to cause caustic soda to be taken by an infant, Joyce Elizabeth Mason. Mrs. Mason, mother of the child, gave evidence that she and her husband lived next to Graham’s. On February 22, witness, ’ the husband, and baby and Mr. Graham went to the Woodville races. Witness left some milk in the baby’s measure, which, was standing in a dish of water in a 1 bath covered with muslin. She took the key of the house with her. Accused saw the party leave. Some of the same milk was. given to the baby at the races, and it suffered no ill effects. On return from the races, witness went to prepare the baby’s milk. On removing the muslin she found the milk had ,a frothy head. A sample was handed to the police later. On two previous occasions, witness noticed similar occurrences with the milk. Witness said that there had been unpleasant incidents between her and the accused.

The Acting Government Analyst said that point four per cent, of caustic soda was in the milk sample handed to the police. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to sentence. Bail was refused.
