A London cablegram announced that the cricketer Fagg, 'who toured Australia, arrived back in England, seriously ill. He reached Plymouth in the ship’s hospital of the “Maloja,” suffering from rheumatic fever and heart trouble.

Mi’ R. I. 'Allan has been appointed Government representative on the Post and Telegraph Department’s Board of Appeal. Mr Allan retired from the department last December after 42 years’ service, during 11 of which he occupied, the position of inspector.

Rev. F. V. Fisher, vicar of Mornington parish, Dunedin, has accepted the cure of the parish of St. Mary, Addington, it was announced by Press Association teleg’ram from Dunedin yesterday. Mr Fisher will replace the Rev. S. J. Cooper, who has been vicar at Addington for the last .four and a half years, and who will now succeed the Rev. R. de Lambert at St. James’s, Lower Riccarton.

On his completion of sixty years in the service of the Timaru “Herald” Company as a compositor, Mr. Richard Campbell was yesterday presented with a gold chain and medal by the’ company, wno, ten years ago, made Mr. Campbell the recipient of a gold watch in recognition of his long service. The chairman of directors, Mr. F G. Kerr, senr., congratulated Mr. Campbell, and said he had worked for t i e paper during the proprietorship c*’ five owners.—Press Assn.

Captain J. "Corbett-Scott, Epsom, Auckland, on Thursday celebrated his ninety-ninth birthday. He is the last survivor of the band of Pukekohe settlers who conducted a gallant defence of the East Pukekohe Church against , a force of more than 300 Maoris. He was born in Cornwall, and came to New Zealand with his parents when he was. 20 years old. Captain and Mrs Corbett-Scott have been married for about 63 years and have lived in their home on the Manukau road for the last 36 years.

Mr J. Keith, whose marriage to Miss J. Burrows will take place this afternoon, at Holy Trinity Church, nnd! who has been transferred from the Customs Department, Greymouth, to Christchurch, was met yesterday, by members of the Greymouth staff, and presented with a wallet. Making the presentation, Mr J. E. Rundle (Collector of Customs) wished him every happiness in his married, life and success in his promotion. Mr Keith's successor, Mr B. B. Rollerson, will arrive from Nelson next week. The Cobden Football Club farewelled Mr Keith on Wednesday evening, and presented him with a bedroom clock.

The retirement of Mr J. Mclndoe, chief clerk of the Magistrate’s' Court at Christchurch, after 41 years’ service with the Department of Justice, will take pl-ace at the end of this month. He joined the Department as a cadet in Reefton. After five years in’ Reefton, Mr Mclndoe was transferred to the Hauraki district. Later, he was for three years at Westport and eight years at Greymouth. Before going to Christchurch nine years ago he was for four years in the Magistrate's Court office at Dunedin. In Paeroa, Waihi, Greymouth, and Dunedin he was actively associated with musical societies, and was for a time both chairman and secretary of the Waihi Rugby Union. He has held every office in the Methodist Church iu various places. In 1914 he organised the West Coast branch of the Public Service Association, and besides acting as chairman of the West Coast and Canterbury sections he has been three times Dominion vicepresident.
