(Recd. April 6, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, April 15. The Duchess of Kent has chosen a Coronation dress in keeping with hei exquisite taste. It is an elaborate gown of gold brocade, entirely embroidered with feather design, with gold and silver paillettes and cabochon diamante. The short, sleeves will be embroidered with the same design. . Although elaborate in workmanship and material, the cut is extremely simple, a straight slim line with a long train. The robe will be of purple velvet, adorned with gold, and trimmed with miniver. DUKE OF GLOUCESTER [BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.] RUGBY, April 14. When the Duke of Gloucester opened an exhibition of the London headquarters of the Overseas League he read a megsage from the King to 49,000 members in all parts of the world. His Majesty, after recalling his long association as Duke of York with the league, expressed his satisfaction at the completion of the great Empire centre. The Duke of Kent at Bolsover (Derbyshire) officially opened the new low temperature carbonisation plant, which has been erected at a cost of £20,000,000 and is one of the largest smokeless fuel plants in the world.
DUKE OF WINDSOR LONDON, April 15. The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Mail” learns that the Duke of Windsor will definitely leave Austria at the beginning of May and will arrive at the Chateau de Conde, where Mrs. Simpson is staying, shortly afterwards. GERMAN GUNS. LONDON, April 15. In connection with Their Majesties’ inspection of Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park, the King has ordered two German guns to be removed from the east terrace of the castle, to a storeroom, considering they disfigured the beautiful terrace in the famous sunken garden. The guns were captured on the western front, and placed on the terrace in 1918. GREYMOUTH PROGRAMME
At a meeting of Greymouth local body representatives, held yesterday afternoon, to consider the celebration of Coronation Day, May 12, there were present: The Mayor, Mr. W. Meldrum, Cr. A. H. McKane, Mr. F. H Denton (Town Clerk), Mr. A. J. Fairmaid (Borough Engineer), represent ing the Borough Council, J. W. Han nan and M. Keating (County Council) : P. J. McLean and G. E. Perkins (Harbour Board), W. H. Parfitt (Power Board), and J. O’Brien, M.P Tentative arrangements were made for a ceremony to be held in front of the Town Hall, at 11 a.m., the Mayor and the Member for the Dis trict to be the speakers. The Municipal, Civic and Pipe Bands are to be invited to attend, and the Mayor was delegated to endeavour to arrange for the presence of the Greymouth Territorial force. It was decided tc ask the Trotting Club for the use of Victoria Park for a sports meeting, and Mr. Perkins was deputed to asli the Karoro Sports Club to conduct the meeting. Mr. Denton was appointed secretary, pro tern. These arrangements, with other proposals, will be discussed at a public meeting to be held next week.
