LAKE BRUNNER NOTES
[our own correspondent.] A euchre and dance was held at Ruru on Friday evening, conducted by the Ladies’ Guild, the funds raised to be devoted to church purposes. There was a fair attendance. Prizes were won by Mrs. Feary and Mr. Wilson. Music for dancing was provided by Messrs W. Hornby and L. Reinhamer. The annual Lake Brunner sports to be held at Te Kinga promise to eclipse the efforts of past years. A strong and energetic committee have already got arrangements will in hand. A feature of the meeting will be the large ■number of local competitors in the wood-chopping events. As .most of these are now training hard, especially over the week-ends, some very keen contests are expected. As the programme includes many other events for young and old, it only requires a fine day to ensure a successful and enjoyable outing. The wiring of most of the houses at Te Kinga is now approaching completion, and residents are well pleased with the change over from the old system.. There, has also been , a mild boom in the radio business, many new sets have been installed, while those with the battery sets have now changed to all-electric. The township of Moana is evidently becoming a desirable residence area, as recently several new homes have been erected or are in course of erection. They will be occupied by workers who have found employment in the neighbourhood. The Railways Department have lately had their buildings and employees’ homes at Moana renovated and painted, and, in the new colours, the appearance is very attractive. The employees themselves appear to take some pride in their homes, and bestow much time and labour on the grounds, the frontage of the residence of the S.M. being particularly noticeable. Miss Daphne Willis, of Ruru, is an inmate of the Grey Hospital. Mr. J. Shearer, an old identity of the Lake Brunner district, has been admitted to Grey Hospital for treatment. Mrs. S. O’Leary, of Kotuku, is also an inmate of the same institution, as the result of a fall at her home recently. Mr. W. England, of Christchurch, is spending fa few days at Moana.; being the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Williams.
