PALMER DEFEATS DE GANS. [per press ASSOCIATION.! INVERCARGILL, March 15. The- professional heavyweight boxing contest to-night between Ambrose Palmer (12.9) of Australia, ami Roy do Gans (12.10) or America, was won by Palmer after five rounds, de Gans retiring with a bad cut over the right eye. Palmer was declared the winner on a technical I,'nock-out. The five rounds were marked by fast and furious boxing, in which de Gans suffered enough punishment for any man to throw in the towel. Palmer was in great, form, excelling in close work, and his display was relished by the crowd. In a preliminary professional wel-ter-weight contest Stan Jenkin (1(1.1) of Gamarn defeated Jack Reidy (in.s) of Invercargill on points. I FARR DEFEATS COORD. I RONDON, March 15. The Welshman. Tommy Farr. outpointed the title-holder. Ren Foot’d, at Hart ingay. for the Empire and British heavy-weight (ham pionshi ps Parr thus meets Max Baer, on April 15. Joe Louis is reported to coining to England in July, to meet the winner of the present heavy-weight series.
