At the Fire Brigades’ Competitions, the new modern events were held. These caused the executive some perplexity, there being confusion over the interpretations. A number of protests and appeals were lodged. With five events completed in the Championship Shield, the following is the position of the leading teams: Petone ?.0£ points. Hokitika ?>os. Hastings 161. Nelson 16, Devonport 16.

Results are as follow: — Four-men Motor Event. —Hokitika-, 42 4-5 sec 1; Hastings, 44 1-5 sec. 2; Petone, 45 2-5 sec. 3; Dannevirke, 46 2-5 sec. 3; Carterton, 47 4-5 sec. 5; Devonport, 48 sec. 6. Three-Men Disabled Hose Event.— Petone, 41 3-5 sec. 1; Upper Hutt, 42 2-5 sec.; Te Aroha, 44 sec, 3; Hokitika, 45 2-5 sec. 4; Waipukurau, 48 2-5 sec. 5; Dannevirke, 49 2-5 sec. 6.

NELSON, March 13

With seven events out of 12 completed, Petone is leading in the championship at the U.F.B.A. demonstrations on the final day, with 43 points. Hokitika is next, with 40 points. In the High Pressure Shield, Petone also lead, with 43 points, Carterton being next with 33J. Results: — . Four Men Hose and Stand-pipe. — Carterton 34 4-5 sec, 1; Petone, 36 sec., 2: Hokitika, 37 3-5 sec., 3; Otorohanga, 38 4-5 sec., 4. Carterton thus win the Simplex Cup. '
