Hailar (Manchukuo) reports state that the Japanese Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a new enterprise fir extensive sheep-farming at Hulunpp’erh, in the North Hsingam Province, where conditions are considered to be excellent.

RUGBY, March 10. Dr. E. L. Burgin, Parliamentary Under-Secretary to the Board of Trad£, declined to accept a suggestion in a question in the House of Commons that the quota regulation of iron anti steel imports should be suspended in view of the shortage in the iron and steel industry. LONDON, March 11-Forty-nine more persons in Britain reached the millionaire class, with incomes exceeding £30,000 last year, making 824, compared with 775 millionaires in the previous year. • IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. LONDON, March 11. Mr Baldwin, in the Commons, announced that the Imperial Conference will be held on May 14. The principal items on the agenda are foreign affairs and defence. RUGBY, March H.

In the Commons, the Prime Minister said that the Imperial Conference would afford an opportunity for discussing matters of common interest to members of the British Commonwelarth, under the following heads: Firstly, foreign affairs and defence;, secondly, constitutinonal questions: thirdly, trade, shipping, air communications, and allied subjects. As to constitutional questions, the particular subjects proposed for consideration were certain matters relating to the Commonwealth treaty procedure, and the international status of members of the British Commonwealth and the channels of communication between them.

Tito Schipa, after a tour of Australia, goes to Hollywood, to make operatic film. Yehudi Menuhin and Richard Crooks have been engaged to tour Australia, in 1939-40. PRINCESSES AT PARTY. LONDON, March 11. The Princesses, dressed alike incoral pink party frocks, were without precedent. present at a Court function, “helping” Their Majesties to entertain 100 ministers and their wives, who attended the first afternoon party in the present reign, at Buckingham Palace. The Princesses stood shyly beside their parents, who, at lhe head of the grand stajrcase, received the guests. Their Majesties and the Princesses took tea with the guests, with whom they later talked informally.
