Maurice Strickland, the New Zealand boxer, made an impressive American start, fighting a draw in a ten-round bout with Arturo Godoy, an unbeaten American. A crowd of 4000 saw a. rousing fight, in which the action never lagged. Godoy had seventeen pounds of an advantage over Strickland. He finished strongly to offset the New Zealander’s early lead. Strickland’s rights to the chin earned him rounds two, three, four, and five in succession. BOUT FOR GREYMOUTH. Arrangements have been finalised by the Greymouth Boxing and Wrestling Association for a professional light-weight boxing contest on Easter Saturday, March' 27, between Ralph Aitken (Wellington) and Dolph Latta (Australia). Aitken is well known to boxing enthusiasts in New Zealand, while Latta recently drew with Alf Blatch in Australia.
The bout replaces the proposed heavy-weight contest between Roy de Gans and Ray Nicol, negotiations for which failed, Giving- to de Gans declining the Easter Saturday date. De Gans becomes eligible for a title bout on April 14, arid’ he wishes to wait for that. ' >
