At the monthly meeting of the Kumar Borough Council, there were present:—the Mayor (Mr. Spiers) Crs.’ Reedy, Murphy, Hanna, Gilbert, Passmore, McDonald. The secretary of the Oddfellows Lodge wrote, extending an invitation to the Mayor, Councillors, and Town Clerk to attend a banquet at the Memorial Hall in honor of the N. Z. Grand Lodge officers and delegates to the Annual District Conference.— .Received and moved that a letter of 'thanks be sent to the secretary for the invitation, intimating that as many of the Councillors who could find it convenient, would attend. The secretary of the Local Bodies Employees Union wrote for particulars of the rate of pay .to permanent and casual employees of the Council. — Resolved that the information be forwarded.

A letter was received from L. Witherington, stating his lorry had been ordered off the road by the traffic inspector. —Resolved that a letter be written to Mr. Witherington pointing out that gravel was required, and if he could not supply same, other arrangements would require to be made. Mr. J. O’Brien wrote regarding visits of Members of the Crown, pointing out that in some cases, he received short notice of Ministers movements, but immediately same came to hand, particulars were published in the papers. The Mayor said when the Minister of Railways was in town, he brought up several matters affecting the railway, which the Minister promised to look into. The chairman of the Cemetery Committee said the subsidised man who had been engaged cleaning the ground, was now working elsewhere, but (bought it possible his services would be available later on. CT. Reedy said it was intended at the next sports gathering to introduce whippet racing, and to enable this to be done, a portion of the Recreation Ground required levelling.—Resolved that the day labour man assist in having the work carried out. The matter of water finding its way into Castle’s yard from the highway, was referred to the Chairman of Public Works.

It was resolved that 10 per cent, interest be added to all overdue rates. Accounts amounting to £57 were passed for payment.
