FEBRUARY RETURNS
SHIPPING AT GREYMOUTH During the month of February, ended yesterday, 20 vessels, aggregating 11,543 tons, entered the port of Greymouth, and the same number (10,533 tons) took their departure. In February, 1936, there were 26 arrivals (10,482 tons) and 26 departures (10,158 tons). A WET MONTH February, 1937, at Greymouth did not maintain its reputation of being a fine month, there being 18 days on which rain fell, a record which has seldom been exceeded. Thei joist February for rain in'recent yeais was in 1933, when there were 20 wet days, although the total was only inches, as compared with 11.00 inches in February of this year, which has been exceeded only twice in the past twenty years, the previous totals being' 11.08 inches in 191./, and 15.82 inches in 1931 when, hovevei, 12.50 inches fell on one day the heaviest rainfall ever recorded at Greymouth. February' last year was a dry month, only 3.58 inches of lain falling on 14 days. The heaviest rainfall for any one day last month was 210 points on February 10.
