NEW YORK, February 15.
The Harvard Observatory has an--5 nounced the discovery of a new comet 1 in the constellation of Canes Vena- ! tici (the Greyhounds). The comet is ! of the twelfth magnitude, invisible to • the naked eye, and has a tail of one 1 degree. VENEZUELAN NAVY. ; PANAMA, February 15. It is reported in informed circles i that Germany is to build two modern destroyers for the Venezuelan Navy, in which there are only two armed vessels, on of which is in such a condition that it is considered dangerous for it to leave the harbour. AUSTRIAN COMMUNISTS. VIENNA, February 15. Pedestrians stared with amazement and traffic was brought to a standstill while a high-sp'eed' skywriting aeroplane traced the outlines of a hammer ' and sickle aloft. Police planes were unable to catch the intruder. BALKAN ENTENTE ATHENS, February 15. The city is decorated for the conference of the Balkan Entente States, which is being held at the Foreign Office. INDIAN ELECTIONS BOMBAY, February 15. Unionists secured a majority in the Punjab Assembly, with 88 seats out of 175. FRISCO BAY CRASH OAKLAND, (California), Feb. 13. A fifth body from the Douglas air liner which plunged into the sea in San Francisco has been recovered from the mud at the bottom of the bay. A local newspaper quotes an unnamed aviation expert as saying that he was positive that the 11 occupants of the air liner were alive.after the crash and tried vainly to swim ashore. He said that the safety belts had been opened, evidently by the sengers.BRITISH TRADE. LONDON, February 14. The Board of Trade returns for January show imports £75,580,000; exports £39,100,000; re-exports £5,076,000 The principal increases compared with January last year were: Imports grain and flour £723,000, meat £843,000, cotton raw waste £764,000, wool raw waste £826,000, other textiles £437,000, raw oils and fats £363,000, hides and skins £1,145,000, non-ferrous metals and manufactures £952,000, machinery £478,000, miscellaneous manufactures £439,000. Exports: Wool raw waste £481,000, iron and steel manufactures £439,000. 1 machinery £311,000, woollen worsted yarns manufactures £298,000, vehicles £478,000. Re-exports: Hides and skins £417,000 Decreases: Imports—Beverages and cocoa £421,000, tobacco £637.000, manti- < factored oils and fats £420,000. c
