DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

NEW RECORD PRICE [PER PBESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, December 22. A new price record for this season’s wool sales was established at Dunedin, to-day, 26.3 d for four bales of first line half-bred from the Ormaglade Station, .Miller’s Flat,-which was secured for Russia after keen competition with a local mill. A still higher price is expected for extra choice clips following. To-day’s catalogue of 30,044 bales is the largest over offered here at a first, sale, 'rhe wool is exceptionally light, well grown, and practically without. defect, the result of the exceptionally mild Winter. Japan dominated lhe buying, as in tlie North, though the demand was fairly wide, Germany, France, and Russia securing good quotas. Bradford was subdued, its limits being at least 2d below Japan’s for hajf-bred, and three-pence for cross-breds. The buying was very animated, the rate of sale being 425 lots per hour. The local mills picked the eyes of the super half-breds, meeting, however, strong competition from one Continental buyer, who is reported to be executing orders for Russia. An interim assessment is that the price per bale will average over £25 as against £l4 at the first sale last year, so that the market is firm on. northern sales. Some early prices realised, with las season’s appended, are: Fine halfbred hogget 253 d (153 d first halfbred pieces 18id (123 d half bred bellies 143 d (10.3 d first half-bred hogget 213 d (14d), super combing merino 22?,d (17Ad), first (line cross-bred 185 d (lid), first fine cross-bred hogget 16?.d (93d).
