NEGOTIATIONS WITH JAPAN

CANBERRA, July 20.

Sir Henry Gullett, Minister in charge of Trade Treaties, announced to-night that, the Japanese Consul, Mr. Murai. had informed him that Japan was prepared to renew trade negotiations with Australia on the basis of the existing trade position. Mr. Murai is awaiting instructions from Tokyo, and it. is -expected that negotiations will be resumed next week.
