CONCILIATION COUNCIL

COMMISSIONER AND EMPLOYERS.

[PER press association.]

WELLINGTON, July 21.

The requests made by the Employers’ Association for postponements of conciliation fixtures seemed to indicate that they were deliberately marking time, said Mr. Reardon, Conciliation Commissioner, to-day, when applications were made to him for a postponement of the hearing of a dispute between the New Zealand Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, and the Joiners’ Machinists’ Association of Workers, and the New Zealand Federated Builders and Contractors’ Association of Employers. Mr. Mountjoy, Secretary of the latter Association, Mr. W. Mill, its President, and Mr. A. Fletcher, all denied that the employers were deliberately obstructing Conciliation Councils. Mr. Mountjoy explained that the delays were caused by the unprecedented pressure of work caused by the recent industrial legislation. After about an hour’s discussion, a fixture was made for August 6 and 7.
